The ‘Learn and deliver’ programme is designed to support individuals providing learning and development in organisations.  

Develop your knowledge of learning theory, support online facilitation skills and discuss how to develop your own bespoke sessions.

The series of events will give learning and development colleagues the tools, knowledge and confidence to deliver learning sessions based on Research in Practice resources.

Who is it for

Designed for individuals from the Research in Practice Partner network in learning and development teams who are responsible for supporting learning and delivering sessions in their organisations. 

How does it work

There are two types of events. Upcoming sessions are listed below:

Learning theory 

Designed to offer a range of general online facilitation and learning skills, this programme of two-hour sessions will focus on:  

  • Mobilising learning theory in practice.
  • What we mean by ‘learning’ and why digital learning is not an optional extra.
  • Growing your online facilitation skills. 
  • Developing a learning culture: what next? 

Deliver it yourself 

Designed to provide guidance to learning and development staff about how to independently develop their own sessions, these two-hour events will use Research in Practice materials, resources and activities.

During these sessions, participants will discuss learning outcomes, tools, exercises, research, materials and activities. Resources and references will also be provided.

Mobilising learning theory in practice - 12 June 2024, 10.00-12.00

  • The key learning theories which support mobilising theory into practice.
  • The different theoretical approaches to learning to encourage change.

What we mean by 'learning' and why digital learning is not an optional extra - 2 October 2024, 13.00-15.00

  • Definitions of a learning culture and how to respond to them within a hybrid setting.
  • The drivers to improve digital skills in social care.
  • Skills and confidence in developing and delivering engaging online learning.

Growing your online facilitation skills - 22 January 2025, 10.00-12.00

  • The similarities and differences between online and face to face learning.
  • Emerging learning theories and the implications for effective facilitation.
  • Developing confidence in using technology to facilitate effecting learning opportunities.

Developing a learning culture: What next? - 12 March 2025, 13.00-15.00

  • Why learning at and through work is important and improves practice.
  • What does having a ‘learning culture’ really mean and how you can start growing one?
  • Getting beyond the tick box – making learning cultures sustainable.
  • Discuss experiences and ideas about developing and delivering sessions.
  • Hear from peers about their experiences and learn from their successes (and mistakes!).
  • Discuss Research in Practice resources, activities and tools that can be used to support learning sessions.
