COVID-19: Inequalities and the implications for children’s social care: Leaders' Briefing (2021)
Introduction
Children’s social care services went into the pandemic struggling to address increasing levels of demand after a decade of austerity had impacted on the challenges faced by families and the services available to support them.
This briefing provides an overview of the contours of the pandemic and its impacts in key areas. It explores the implications for children’s social care, focusing on the possibilities going forward in relation to key areas such as poverty-aware practice and service design. The briefing provides useful evidence to inform the challenges and decisions facing local leaders in emerging from the pandemic and locate these within wider understandings of the inequalities exposed by COVID-19 and responses to these. It also identifies resources to support children’s social care to meet these challenges.
